The Things You Hear

Driving on a dirt road on the outskirts of the city, there are many distinct sounds that bounce around an outdated taxi cab with the windows rolled down for some small respit from the balmy heat outside. Pebbles flying off balding tires into the freshly mud slicked wheel well, the incessant honking of a passing car as he narrowly avoids the the left side of our car and the oncoming traffic in the other lane, the blend of columbian, german, american, and ecuadorian spanish accents as we recall the events of our carnival filled day, and finally the unforgettable thud of striking a dog at 40 mph and the fading whimper into the dark warm night. All forever imbedded into my sensory memory, but only one of those I truly wish to forget.
